Woodland Elf Shelf Sitter Crochet Pattern
Oh how I love fantasy books and movies with elves and hobbits and fairies! What a beautiful world they always seem to live in. I had those pictures in my mind when I created the pattern for his little guy! My mind envisioned a woodland elf with a mushroom theme.. but different than most I have seen. How about a chubby little guy with a Tweedle Dee-Tweedle Dum look… with puff sleeves? And not the normal mushroom shaped hat… noooooo… my little elf would have mushrooms ON his hat. In my mind, I saw Radagast the Brown (from the Hobbit) with his bird’s nest on his hat. The hat must be pointy hat though… with moss, and mushrooms and snow!! Thus, my the Woodland Elf Shelf Sitter Crochet Pattern was created.
The Elf designing process:
The first little guy I created was a Winter woodland elf. He is decked out with mushrooms, moss and raffia and has some snowy accents. I used Aileen’s Glitter Snow for that. On the tip of his hat… a big bell to jingle his way through the woods. Maybe it was a bit much…. so I made a different one.
With this new one, I changed the underside of his hat a bit to make it a little more “mushroomy”. I cut back on the moss and raffia and didn’t add the snow. Perfection!
He turned out just as I envisioned him. When making the second one, I decided to change the green to a dark olive and it was perfect. I am kinda stuck on that combination of colors right now!! As you can see, I also made little mushrooms with those same colors and am also working on a Christmas stocking.
Yarns and supplies I used:
I used “I Love This Yarn” from Hobby Lobby and “Red Heart Super Saver” from Walmart,

More about this pattern
This pattern is low sew and is for the intermediate crocheter. It includes colored photos and links to helpful YouTube videos. The elf has a flat bottom so that it can sit with it’s long legs hanging off. It is also weighted to give extra stability. I encourage you to use your own creativity when making your elf.
