Patriotic Boy Crochet Pattern

It is officially patriotic season in the US. Starting with Memorial Day and ending on the 4th of July, Americans love their red, white and blue! I do. It makes my heart swell to see flags out everywhere and I love to decorate my home as well. That love is what inspired my very first crochet design I created to sell.. this Patriotic Boy Shelf Sitter Crochet Pattern.

I love making things I can decorate with. Also, I love vintage things. The vintage artwork of little boys watching a parade, wearing their colors, and waving their little flags inspired this little guy. Can\’t you just imagine him sitting in a little wagon, imitating the drummers in the parade and his little cheeks glowing with the excitement of it all (and secretly hoping for an ice cold lemonade afterward)?

That is the inspiration behind this design. My little Patriotic Boy is donning the colors with his white shoes and shirt, red pants and bowtie, and little blue jacket topped with his cute little cap atop a curly head of hair.

About this pattern:

I designed him so that the clothing mostly involves color changes on the body itself, and I crochet it all together.

His jacket sleeves are part of the arms and a separate little vest. The hair is crocheted onto the cap and then sewn onto the head. His little bow tie is crocheted and then sewn on as well.

This pattern includes two different hairstyles. The \”curly\” version and a simpler, shaggy look.

This crochet pattern is perfect for the advanced beginner crocheter with amigurumi knowledge!

I published this pattern last year. Since then, I have learned a lot more about pattern writing and have fine tuned my pattern style and wording for my shelf sitters. Just recently, I revised the pattern and had it retested. I am so pleased with this final pattern and with how far I have come in the past year!

Supplies needed for this pattern:

Hook: 3.75mm or 4mm (according to your tension)
Yarn: 4-Medium weight in Red, White, Blue and Flesh
Yarn for Hair: For the curly hair: You will want a softer or baby-type yarn for this. ~or~ For a simple shaggy look you can use a thin plush such as Bernat Pipsqueak, or an eyelash yarn
Stuffing
Plastic canvas
optional: Plastic safety eyes, 12mm
optional: Weights such as Poly Pellets and something to put them in or the glass rocks from the Dollar Tree
Yarn needle
Stitch Marker
Small Flag. Mine are for cupcakes and I bought them at Hobby Lobby. You can
also make one with paper and a toothpick (instructions included)

Yarns I used:

I used Red: Mainstays 100% Acrylic Yarn
White: Crafter’s Secret Big Idea
Blue: I Love This Yarn Metallic in Royalty
Flesh: Red Heart Super Saver in Buff

Hair: I used Yarn Bee Soft Secrets in Tobacco

\"\"

For this one, I used all the same except I used Mainstays 100% acrylic for the blue.

\"\"

The only difference on this one from the first one is the hair. I used Bernat Pipsqueak yarn and hair option \”2\”.

This pattern can be used for ANY country!

Remember I said earlier that I had the revised pattern tested? In fact, it was tested by others across the world! The testers took this pattern and used it to create a patriotic boy who represented their country or another besides the US. They turned out soooo good!!! I loved seeing their creativity. What do you think?
