Scarecrow Shelf Sitter Crochet Pattern
Last year, I released this Scarecrow Shelf Sitter Crochet Pattern and I wanted to include it on this blog!
I LOVE Scarecrows
For me, scarecrows are one of my favorite Fall decorations!! They always have been. For one, they kinda remind me of my Grandpa (the overalls and hat). Two, they are ADORABLE! And three, they remind me of sunflower fields.
In Arkansas, Highway 7 is the scenic highway. When I first married my husband, it was a highway full of wonderful gift shops showcasing crafts made in the Ozarks. Another site that you could see every late summer was a large sunflower field with a few cute, authentic scarecrows giving you a wave as you drove by. It is one of my favorite memories. Sadly, those days are gone as most of the shops have closed down and the sunflower field is no more.
About this pattern
This pattern is a fairly easy pattern and is great for beginners with amigurumi knowledge. It is also a NO SEW crochet pattern! (Those are my favorites!)
The scarecrow is a Shelf Sitter, which means it has a flat bottom so it can sit well, and long legs to hang over the edge of a shelf ( or books, or wooden crate, or whatever you wish!) If you follow the pattern as written, it comes out about 12 in. tall. Of course, that also can change depending on yarn, tension, etc….
The pattern is worked using single and half-double crochet stitches. It has clear photos and a link to a helpful video playlist.
Instructions are included for the whimsical hat or you could use a straw hat meant for dolls. I used both and love the look of each one.
In the pattern, yarn is used as the straw sticking out of the hat, shirt and pants or you can choose to use raffia. I made this scarecrow using yarns and raffia from the Dollar Tree. For the hat, I simply folded my pieces in half and glued them to the inside. Instead of making overalls, I attached raffia around the neck. It was very challenging to attach that raffia, but worth it (but I probably won\’t make another).
Different yarns, different examples…
Even though this Scarecrow Shelf Sitter Crochet Pattern was written for medium weight yarn, it can be worked with any weight yarn. My testers used acrylic, cotton and chenille yarns and they all worked great. Here are photos of their awesome work:
Aren\’t they all wonderful!! As a creator, the greatest joy is seeing others use your pattern to create their own version. I love them all.
Are you ready to make one?
