Little Mittens- Crocheted Mitten Pattern
Introducing my new crocheted mitten pattern: Little Mittens! I love cute mittens. There is something so hygge, so vintage, so… something that makes my heart smile even when I hear the word! Maybe it’s because of Julie Andrews.
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. Silver white winters that melt into spring... these are a few of my favorite things.
Last year I wrote a pattern for tiny mittens, and it’s available in this post. I also wanted to write a mitten ornament pattern so that you could use any yarn to make it (especially chenille and velvet). Not only was it to be an ornament, but I also wanted it to be the perfect size for gift cards and candies, or even a car hanger ScentZ (like my sunflower). I absolutely love how it turned out!
About this pattern
This pattern is beginner friendly. It’s an easy pattern that works up very quickly as well as a great scrap-buster! I have also included links to my YouTube channel with videos to help with special stitches. The pattern itself is a step-up for myself… with cheery colors and fonts, a clickable table of contents where you can jump from section to section, as well as clickable links! (FYI… this is VERY uptown from where a lot of my patterns are. Most of them were created in Google Docs.)
As I stated before, you can use any yarn with this pattern. If you want to use it as a car fragrance or gift card holder, I recommend a chenille or plush yarn. Acrylic and cotton yarns make a much smaller size, but those would be the perfect ornament size.
Included in this crocheted mitten pattern are 4 different cuff options (Berry St, Ribbed St, Fur, and Plain) tips on using the pattern with worsted weight yarns, as well as separate instructions on making the striped mitten.

A little inspiration
I always enjoy looking a different versions of a pattern to get some inspiration and also to see how it would look with different yarns. Below, I have included photos of more mittens I have made with the yarn(s) used, as well as photos from my pattern testers. They were all so helpful and LOOK at these mittens!! If you are on Instagram, go give them a follow :).

All these mittens were made with 4/med. weight yarn and a 3.75mm hook. These are all made adding the extra rounds as stated in the pattern.

To create a gift card holder
To use this Little Mitten pattern to make a mitten large enough for a gift card, you will want to use a 6/bulky weight yarn and at least a 4.5mm hook. You may also want to make it using the Yarn Over method, but you may need to adjust your rounds above the thumb. Just make sure each round starts/ends in the middle of the thumb.

For my larger mittens, I used Premier Parfait Chunky, Big Twist Posh, Chenille Home Slim and Yarn Bee’s Adore-A-Ball and Velvety Smooth. One thing I want to note… when using the Big Twist Posh and Chenille Home Slim, the mitten was not flat. It was open with a bowl shape.

To create a car hanger
To use this Little Mitten pattern to make a car hanger to hang from your rear-view mirror, simply make your loop with a CH50. You can either SlSt this chain back into the same st, or you can SlSt it into the opposite side of the mitten.
I hope you will make a ton of these cuties with my Little Mittens crocheted mitten pattern. Please tag me on social media with your photos so I can see what you have created!
