St. Patrick’s Day Door Hanger
I absolutely love to have a door hanger for every season and holiday! That is one decoration I can change out easily. Spring is a busy time for holidays, but I like to have a little variety in the door decor department. This year while designing and making my Valentine’s Day door hanger, I had the idea to use the same hearts to make a shamrock. I love the way it turned out.

Instead of the traditional colors for Saint Patrick’s day, I wanted a more muted look. I knew I for sure wanted my shamrock to be a sage green. My rainbow colors had to have the same hue. I couldn’t find some of the colors I needed in the shade I wanted and had to mix navy blue into my purple and sage into my sky blue.
Most all the supplies for this hanger either came from the Dollar Tree or I already had it on hand. It’s a very cheap and easy door hanger to make. So let’s get to it!

Supplies
- 3 wooden heart hangers (Dollar Tree)
- a wood piece for the back (I used an oval wood hanger from the Dollar Tree)
- a wooden rainbow (Dollar Tree)
- paint
- primer (I used spray primer from Walmart)
- shamrock color (I used Folk Art Home Decor Chalk in Sage)
- rainbow colors
- ribbons/tulle
- glue (I used hot glue and E6000)
- clamps
Instructions
Here are the written instructions. Below these are the photos.
Prep
- First you will want to paint all your wood pieces with primer. Be sure to paint the front and back. These thin wood pieces will warp with any moisture. I did 2 coats.
- Fill in the holes of 2 of the hearts. I just put a small piece of masking tape on the bottom of the holes and filled with hot glue. Try your best to get it level. Remove tape when cooled.
- Paint the hearts and the backing piece the same color. I did 2 coats. Don’t forget the edges!
- Paint the rainbow.
Assembly
- Glue the hearts to the backing piece. Do not use hot glue for this. Use a good adhesive. I laid them on top first and used a pencil to mark the points. Glue the top heart on first (make sure it’s the heart that still has the hole so you can hang it!) Use the clamps to hold it in place while it dries. I let it dry over night. Next glue the other 2 hearts. I also let it dry overnight.
- Decide what ribbons/tulle you want to use. Then decide how long you want them to be. They will be folded in half so take that into account. Mine hang about 12″ so I cut 2- 24″ pieces. (I wish I had cut more to make it fuller.)
- Tie a string around the middle of the ribbons. Use hot glue to glue them up into the space where the hearts meet.
- Glue the rainbow onto the hearts, making sure to cover the ribbons and the hearts. Do not use hot glue for this. Use a good adhesive.
- Add string or ribbon to the top hole to hang the door hanger.
- Hang your beautiful door hanger on your door and enjoy it!

SO MANY POSSIBILITIES!
After I finished this door hanger, I really wished I would have painted some kind of border around the hearts and added more tulle and some matching ribbons in (I may do it still!) Then I wanted to make one in traditional colors because I found the cutest ribbon at the Dollar Tree!

I hope you decide to make one and share it on social media. Be sure tag me because I would love to see it!
